PRE-BALLET​

These classes introduce a structured environment while allowing children to recognize their own individuality and body mobility. Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. Keeping students entertained while learning beginning dance skills will help them to acquire a lifelong love for dance.

BALLET​ II & III

Advanced stretching and strengthening exercises are given, barre work is continued with a greater emphasis on vocabulary and French terminology. Musicality continues to be emphasized along with balance and coordination through the strengthening of the body core. Center work is introduced with continued focus on the positions of the arms, legs and feet using classical ballet vocabulary.

 

 JUNIOR & SENIOR BALLET​

Requirements: Minimum 2-3 years of ballet training. By instructor placement only!  The option of beginning work on Pointe shoes will be given in these classes.

The advanced level challenges the student with more complex combinations at the barre and in the center. The student will work on fluidity of movement, balance, and combinations.

 

MODERN

Classes integrate various traditional disciplines of modern dance foundations with current contemporary styles. These classes are for dancers who like physical complicated floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression. Elements of improvisation are also introduced.

 

BALLROOM

Ballroom dances are most traditionally partner dances. There are many different types and styles of ballroom dancing, including mambo, salsa, cha-cha, swing, jive, and many more.  This class will offer a variety of styles.

 

 

TAP​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies.  With each level, steps and rhythms can become more complex.

 

JAZZ

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Each level of jazz is a continuation of the previous level and increases in difficulty.

 

HIP-HOP

This class will introduce students’ to the basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement. Hip Hop is about personal style and expression, and originated as street dance. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move. 

 

FLAMENCO

Flamenco dance is a highly-expressive, Spanish dance form. The flamenco is a solo dance characterized by hand clapping, percussive footwork, and intricate hand, arm and body movements.  With roots in Indian, Arabic, Spanish cultures, flamenco dance is known for its sweeping arm movements and rhythmic feet stomping. Flamenco dancers really know how to follow and produce rhythmic patterns. Perhaps the greatest joy of flamenco dancing is watching the personal expressions and emotions of the dancer.
